Bible: Waters Covered Whole Earth

In the first day of creation described by Genesis 1:1, it says the earth is formless, empty and that waters cover the earth. Later on the third creation day in Genesis 1:9, dry land appears and separates the bodies of water.

Genesis (1:1) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. [2] Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. NIV

Genesis (1:9) And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so. [10] God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good. NIV

This is also confirmed in other verses elsewhere in the Bible:

Psalm (104:5) He set the earth on its foundations;it can never be moved. 104:6 You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. 104:7 But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight; 104:8 they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them. 104:9 You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth.NIV

Proverbs (3:19) By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place; 3:20 by his knowledge the deeps were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew.NIV
